The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities presents Art Unplugged, a new summer performance series that showcases the talent of local artists at locations throughout the four quadrants of Washington, DC. The series spans from June 15, 2009 through August 14, 2009 and is hosted by 32-year-old Washington native W. Ellington Felton.
District of Columbia based performing artists–actors, singers, dancers, visual artists, musicians and poets are provided with a platform to showcase their talents in while audiences have the opportunity to experience quality arts programming in nontraditional spaces.
“We are thrilled to launch this new performance series,” said Gloria Nauden, Executive Director of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. “The artists participating reflect the diverse artistic expression present within the District. Residents and visitors of DC will experience the rich culture that our city has to offer.”
Venues include: Helix Lounge, Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, Honfleur Gallery, and Playbill Café, to name a few. The Art Unplugged series includes special appearances by national recoding artists Bilal Oliver and DC’s own Tabi Bonney. Audiences will enjoy a diverse range of performers including Regie Cabico, Nistha Raj, AM Radio, Finn MacCoul, Christine Kharazian and many more. Performances will take place weekday evenings and weekends.
The DC Commission in the Arts and Humanities is pleased to work in conjunction with the Humanities Council of Washington, DC to provide artist talk-backs at select performances as well as the “Pay It Forward Professional Exchange” where emerging arts and humanities professionals connect with accomplished experts immediately following the August 15, 2009 performance.
